Minister of Transport Leonore Gewessler (Greens) announced at the weekend that she would comply with a long-standing demand from numerous communities: they should be able to independently decide on zones of 30 in the local area – especially at neuralgic points such as schools or care facilities. The state administration was previously responsible for this – the speed limits desired by the municipalities were often not implemented.
