The death toll from earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has risen to at least 21,051, according to authorities.
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said on February 9 that in the country, the death toll had increased to at least 17,674 and the number of injured was 72,879.
Meanwhile, in Syria, at least 3,377 people have been killed, including 2,030 in rebel-held areas of northwestern Syria and 1,347 in government-controlled areas.
The number of wounded in Syria across all territories has risen to 5,245, of which 2,295 are in government-controlled areas and 2,950 in rebel-held areas.
The number of injured people recorded in these two countries is at least 78,124.
World Bank allocates 1.78 billion USD to help Turkey
The World Bank (WB) has decided to allocate 1.78 billion USD to Turkey for earthquake relief and recovery.
“The World Bank has allocated $1.78 billion for relief and recovery efforts after the devastating earthquake in southeastern Turkey. WHO Director-General arrives in Syria
World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he is traveling to Syria to coordinate support for earthquake victims.
“I am on my way to Syria, where WHO provides essential health services to people in earthquake-stricken areas,” Ghebreyesus wrote on Twitter on February 9.
