The winter episode of freezing rain that fell during the night caused damage to the electrical network across several sectors of Quebec.

Wednesday morning, Hydro-Quebec reported 23,254 customers who were without power in at least nine regions of the province.

The majority of outages were recorded in Montérégie and Outaouais with respectively 9,227 and 5,090 customers who are plunged into darkness.

Some 3,383 households are without electricity in the Laurentians region, followed by Centre-du-Québec with 3,172, while in Montreal, 1,767 households suffer the same fate.

In Quebec and Estrie, power outages affected 328 and 188 customers respectively, according to the state company, which specifies that in Chaudière-Appalaches, 67 homes are without electricity.

Hydro-Québec said on Twitter that its teams were mobilized to remedy the situation.
