The president of Alianza País (AlPaís), William Morenostated this Tuesday that the separation of that party and Democratic Option (OD) occurred because differences in visions, political culture and working methods were evident.
“It seems that we lacked time in the pre-merger phase to discover and harmonize those differences,” Moreno said.
Country Alliance and Democratic Option had proclaimed their merger in August 2019, prior to the elections to be held the following year.
Moreno maintained that the separation between the two parties was adopted at a meeting of the Political Commission of AlPaís held on May 8.
“Indeed, after a process, at that meeting of the Political Commission on May 8, we voluntarily decided to produce the organic separation of both parties. I must say that it was a decision of great political maturity and that is why, as the last paragraph of the separation agreement says, both parties undertake to foster mutual respect and maintain cordial relations, ”he indicated.
The political leader considered that any separation always remains, although he stressed that since last February AlPaís has had a national campaign for the affiliation of new members.
“Any separation always remains, in this case, also, valuable companions. But it is appropriate to say that since February 27 we launched our national affiliation campaign, which means that every week dozens of Alliance brigades go through neighborhoods and communities, significantly increasing the number of Alianza País affiliates, “he said.
He also said that the separation agreement signed between Alianza País and Democratic Option shows the political maturity of both organizations.
“What most affects a party is not resolving its internal problems in a democratic way when they arise. The signed agreement reveals that indeed both political formations had the maturity to separate organically so that each one can act on the national political scene according to their vision and methods. That will finally translate into greater strength and coherence for each one, ”he indicated.
