Closures of schools in Morocco, where cases of Covid were detected this week, continue. This Monday, it is the Jean Charcot high school in El Jadida which closed its doors following a screening established by the health delegation on a sample of 45 students and 30 adults of the administrative and educational staff, which allowed the identification 22 cases of Covid-19 (15 among students and 7 among administrative staff).

The lessons will therefore be given remotely from this Tuesday, January 11, before resuming face-to-face on January 18, the school announced to the parents of the students.

The return to school, after two weeks of vacation, is marked by a sharp increase in contamination in the ranks of students, pushing several establishments to suspend face-to-face lessons.

Last week, the Saint-Exupéry college, the André-Malraux high school and the Descartes high school in Rabat, as well as the Louis Massignon college and Lyautey high school in Casablanca decided to close their doors.

Other schools prefer to close the classes affected by cases of contamination instead of closing completely.

This Monday, the Al Jabr Bouskoura high school closed an entire class following the multiplication of cases tested positive for Covid-19. “Today, we register the third student who tested positive for Covid. (…) The students in this class go into distance education immediately for a period of 7 days (until January 17, 2022 inclusive, ”the school announced to the parents of the students.

Despite this increase in contamination in schools, a general closure of schools is not on the agenda. The government spokesperson said last Thursday that there is no question of closing all schools.
