Morocco maintains customs duty on Turkish textiles

Moroccan customs announced the one-year extension of the safeguard measure on imports of clothing and textile products from Turkey. Thus, this definitive preferential safeguard measure on Turkish textile imports has been extended until December 31, 2022, according to a note from the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes (ADII).

This extension aims to develop Moroccan textiles by signing partnership agreements, in particular with Moroccan retail chains, it is pointed out.

Concretely, these adjustment measures restore the import duty at 90% of the rate set under common law, on textile and clothing products originating in Turkey.

Thanks to this policy, Morocco experienced a 23% growth in textile exports in 2021. The sector employs 189,000 people through 1,628 companies and generates a turnover of 50.48 billion dirhams, of which 36, 5% for export.
