Little Rayan, aged 5, who had been stuck in a well since Tuesday, died on Saturday evening before being evacuated by ambulance.

Morocco had been hanging on to its fate for five days now, trying the impossible to extract it from a well 32 meters deep and much too narrow to be able to climb it.

The emergency services, civil protection and the Moroccan authorities have mobilized all possible means to try to save the little boy.

The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, called Rayan’s parents to offer them his condolences and assure them of his full support.

The Moroccan government has deployed a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter as well as several medical vehicles hoping that Rayan can benefit from the best care as soon as he is released.

Hundreds of thousands of people have followed, live, for days, thanks to social networks and the media, the progress of the relief operations.

On Twitter, Rayan remained the most discussed topic in France on Thursday, Friday and he is still at the top of the list this Saturday.

At the announcement of his evacuation, Internet users massively expressed their emotion and their joy to see the little Moroccan coming out of the tunnel, thinking at first that he had survived this terrible accident.

Since the announcement of his death, messages of condolences have multiplied and flowed in from all over the world.
