Morocco: This year’s drought is exceptional in “its magnitude and duration” (researcher)

Rabat – The drought observed this year in Morocco is exceptional for “its intensity, its scale and its duration”, said the teacher at the Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5R) and president of the National Observatory for Studies and Research on Risks (ONERR), Prof. Mohamed Mastere, noting that rainfall represents only 13% of the average recorded during this period.

In an interview with MAP, Prof. Mastere noted that according to data from the National Meteorological Department (DMN), Morocco is hit this winter by early and extreme aridity, due to low rainfall in December. -January, considered “the driest months since 2000”.
