Morocco’s Intangible Heritage: ISESCO’s Latest Approvals and Rankings

Rabat – The Committee for Heritage in the Islamic World of the World Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) approved, Monday during its 11th meeting in Rabat, the integration of eight elements of intangible heritage on behalf of the Kingdom of Morocco.

These are the making of jewelry with pearls, the weaving of Hayek and the burnous of Figuig, the tannery, the equestrian art of Mata, the pottery of Safi, Attalbi, the songs and the Aouad dance of Ait Baâmrane and the traditional game of Ssig, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.

With these new inscriptions, Morocco, which has 54 elements of intangible heritage registered on the ISESCO list, comes at the top of the Islamic countries in this ranking, underlines the same source.

The meeting of the Heritage Committee in the Islamic World also saw the election of the new office for a four-year term, with the presidency assigned to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the vice-presidency to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, while the Republic of Senegal sits there as rapporteur, we conclude.
