Most Impressive NFL Draft Classes of the Century: From Georgia’s 2022 Haul to Ohio State’s 2025 Title Class

Georgia, Ohio State and LSU continue to dominate the pipeline of talent flowing into the NFL, according to the latest analysis of draft selections since 2000. The three programs have consistently produced the highest number of players selected in the annual NFL Draft, reflecting their sustained success in recruiting and player development at the highest level of college football.

Data compiled by CBS Sports shows that Georgia leads all FBS programs with 63 players drafted since the start of the 21st century, followed closely by Ohio State with 61 and LSU with 60. These figures underscore the programs’ ability to reload year after year, maintaining elite status despite changes in coaching staff, scheme and conference competition.

The Bulldogs’ surge in recent years has been particularly notable. Georgia’s 2022 draft class included five first-round selections, a program record, highlighted by Travon Walker going No. 1 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. That year marked the culmination of a two-year national championship run under head coach Kirby Smart, during which Georgia produced 15 total draft picks — the most by any school in a two-year span since 2000.

Ohio State’s strength lies in its consistency. The Buckeyes have had at least one player selected in the first round of every NFL Draft since 2004, a streak of 20 consecutive years. Their 2025 class, while not yet finalized, is projected to include multiple first-round talents, continuing a trend of NFL-ready production on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Kyle McCord and defensive end Jack Sawyer are among the prospects drawing early attention for the upcoming draft.

LSU remains a premier source of defensive talent, particularly in the secondary and at linebacker. The Tigers have produced 11 first-round defensive backs since 2000, more than any other school. Their 2020 draft class, which featured Joe Burrow as the No. 1 overall pick, likewise included seven total selections — the most by LSU in a single draft since 2003. Burrow’s selection capped a historic season in which he won the Heisman Trophy and led LSU to a 15-0 record and a College Football Playoff national championship.

Other programs rounding out the top five include Alabama with 58 draft picks and Oklahoma with 55. While Alabama has traditionally matched or exceeded Georgia and Ohio State in recent drafts, its total since 2000 is slightly lower due to fewer selections in the early 2000s. Oklahoma’s numbers reflect sustained success under Bob Stoops and Lincoln Riley, particularly in developing quarterbacks and offensive skill players.

The data reveals broader trends in college football’s talent distribution. The Southeastern Conference and Big Ten dominate the upper echelon of draft-producing schools, with eight of the top ten programs coming from those two leagues. This reflects not only competitive strength but also greater investment in facilities, coaching staffs and recruiting infrastructure.

As the NFL continues to value versatility, athleticism and scheme flexibility, programs that emphasize player development over pure recruitment rankings may gain an edge in future draft evaluations. However, for now, Georgia, Ohio State and LSU stand at the forefront of NFL talent production, setting the benchmark for sustained excellence in college football.

What comes next will depend on how these programs adapt to evolving NCAA rules around name, image and likeness (NIL) and the transfer portal. Early signs suggest that Georgia and Ohio State have adjusted well, using NIL collectives to retain key players while continuing to attract high school talent. LSU, under recent head coach Brian Kelly, is working to rebuild its defensive identity after a transitional 2023 season.
