Motorola releases a foldable that wants to make Switzerland dream

Returning to the Swiss market in 2020, Motorola (now in the hands of the Chinese Lenovo) is launching a new range of smartphones with the idea of grabbing market share on the Old Continent. Since June 1, the fourth generation of foldable phones has been introduced with, in particular, the high-end model called Razr 40 Ultra. The latter was prominent in Zurich on Thursday, where a press briefing was organized. First impressions.

The device is available in three colors including a “Viva Magenta” which will be temporarily exclusive, until August 2, to Sunrise stores in Switzerland. By the end of July, the launch should be in full swing. Folded, the smartphone fits in the palm of the hand and is reminiscent of a square compact. The corners are rounded. On the “cover”, Motorola has placed a screen with more than respectable dimensions since it takes up almost the entire surface. Unfolded, the device reveals a rectangular screen in one piece and almost edge to edge. To distinguish the fold, you have to get up early or look at the screen from a certain angle. Seeing the user interface of this Android (version 13) adapt to various screen sizes by switching between open and closed mode is quite fascinating.
What to say at the end of this brief meeting? The device is elegant. Although foldable, it gives an impression of robustness that will have to be checked over time. All the functions of a smartphone seem to adapt perfectly to changes in dimensions.
A later test will determine if the plumage is as lustrous as the warbling suggests.
The recommended price of the Razr 40 Ultra is 1190 Swiss francs. The symbolic bar of 1000 francs is once again pulverized.
