After the Mountain Bike World Cup, which stopped off in Leogang (Pinzgau) last weekend, the organizers are happy to take stock. After two years without an audience, more than 21,500 mountain bike fans came to Leogang for the three days of the competition.

After the successful World Cup weekend, talks are already underway with the International Cycling Union for another World Cup double event in Pinzgau next year. This is confirmed by the tourism director of the Saalfelden-Leogang region, Marco Pointner.

“Working towards how we took over the cross-country competition at short notice in 2020, how we held 14 world championship competitions – it was always this farsightedness to hold double world cup events with spectators. It was absolutely worth it. Our goal really is to tie the World Cup to Leogang in the long term. We also have a World Cup bid running for 2028. So we’re doing everything we can to have top mountain bike events in Austria in the future,” says Pointner. If you get the contract for 2028, it would be the third Mountain Bike World Championships for Leogang after 2012 and 2020.

More than 20,000 visitors came to Leogang on the three days of the competition.

In terms of sport, Laura Stigger from Tyrol provided the highlight of the weekend from a home perspective – with third place in the women’s cross-country competition on Sunday. Already on Saturday, local hero and favorite Valentina Höll had to settle for sixth place in the downhill after two falls.
