The German football legend was at home in Munich, where he felt discomfort. He was taken to the nearest hospital, but he breathed his last.

Bremen was a key member of Germany’s 1990 World Cup-winning team. He scored the winning goal with an 85th-minute penalty in the final against Argentina.

He was born in Hamburg on November 9, 1960. He started to make his mark on German football in the early 80’s playing for Saarbrucken. In the summer of ’81 he was transferred to Kaiserslautern, with whom he played for five seasons. This was followed by a two-year stint (1987-1988) at Bayern Munich, with which he won the German championship (1987).

This was followed by a major transfer to the Italian Inter Milan where he played from the summer of 1988 to 1992. He won the Italian league in 1989 and the UEFA Cup in 1991.

He played for one season with Zaragoza in Spain (1992-93) and returned to his beloved Kaiserslautern in the summer of 1993. There, under the guidance of Otto Rehagel, he won the German championship in 1998, having been promoted from the second division the year before season, while also lifting the German Cup in 1996.

With the German national team he played 86 times scoring eight goals, he was of course a key member of the team that won the 1990 World Cup under the instructions of Franz Beckenbauer who passed away a few days ago, while he was also a finalist in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and Euro 1992 in Sweden.
