The Australian foreign player Marena Whittle (1.80m, 1994) is the first new face for the “women in black” of Movistar Estudiantes 2023-24.

This same week he was the protagonist in the 3×3 World Cup held in Vienna, where Australia won the bronze medal, with two consecutive baskets from the now new student player to eliminate China. They had previously eliminated the Spanish team.

With 10 points per game, she has been the top scorer in this 3×3 World Cup and part of the ideal team of the competition.

But beyond 3×3 basketball, Whittle is an established and experienced player in 5×5 basketball. With the ability to play in the 2 and 3 positions and with a very scoring profile, she has played since 2017 in the WNBL, an Australian professional league in the ranks of Bendigo Spirit, Perth Lynx – where she was nominated for Most Improved Player of the 2019-20 season– and since 2020 at the Adelaide Lightning, with whom he has averaged 12.7 points per game this last season.

But she has also played in the NBL1, another semi-professional category of Australian basketball that is played after the WNBL has finished: this spring she has averaged 23.5 points with the Ringwood Hawks, the team with which she was champion the previous year and part of the ideal quintet.

Whittle was trained in the American NCAA, at the University of North Dakota, although he has been linked to basketball all his life: he began playing at the age of 4.

Now she will face a new challenge in the Endesa Women’s League and the Eurocup Women in the ranks of Movistar Estudiantes. After confirmations of the continuity of Laura Méndez, Billie Massey, Alexy Mollenhauer, Bego de Santiago and the Spanish international María Eraunzetamurgil, as well as coach David Gallego, Marena Whittle is the first confirmed addition.
