Ms. Pac-Man inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame

In 1981 the Midway company made an arcade of the popular Pac-Manit was his female version, Ms. Pac-Man that was in that illegality for several years until being recognized by Bandai Namco.

With a bow on her head, painted lips and sometimes a mole and highlighted eyelashes, this Pacman woman in more current games has only one mole.

After 40 years, the Video Game Hall of Fame did justice, naming the game along with Dance Dance Revolution, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Sid Meier’s Civilization.

One of the justifications for its inclusion is given by Julia Novakovic, chief archivist of the room.

“There was nothing inherently gendered about early video games, and by featuring the first widely recognized female video game character, Ms. Pac-Man represented a shift in the cultural conversation about the place of women in the arcade, as well as in society in general,” he said.

Among the finalists, but who did not reach their place this 2022 were: Assassin’s Creed, Candy Crush Saga, Minesweeper, NBA Jam, PaRappa the Rapper, Resident Evil, Rogue and Words with Friends.
