MTN becomes the first African company to enter the Metaverse

Today, Africa’s largest telecommunications company, MTN has purchased 144 digital plots of land in the Africarare Ubuntuland metaverse for an undisclosed sum. MTN, with this purchase, claimed to become the first African company to enter the metaverse, according to a press release posted on the company’s website.

Ubuntuland is developed by Africarare and Mann Made Media and will open for public land sales later this year. Ubuntuland will showcase some of the best in African art, fashion, entertainment, sports, technology and creativity and provide a platform for artists from across the continent to showcase their work.

Africarare is South Africa’s first metaverse, home to a digital territory with roots in the African continent. He sold his first non-fungible token (NFT) art collection last year for around $50,000. The move comes following MTN recently rebranded itself as a technology company rather than a telecommunications company.
