Mumbai Indians should expel Rohit Sharma: Former Indian superstar

Former India captain Sanjay Manjrekar has said that Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and star pacer Jaspreet Bumra should be rested from the upcoming XI.

Manjrekar’s observation comes as Mumbai are out of the play – offs and the Indian team is set to play a series after the IPL.

He says the Mumbai Indians have nothing left to do this season and if they are out, the youngsters will get more opportunities.

His response was to ESPN Cricinfo.

‘Mumbai Indians have nothing left to do. When he was selected for the playing XI, a lot of youngsters did well for Mumbai.

For that reason, Rohit Sharma and Jaspreet Bumra can be rested. In addition, Ishant Kishan should be brought down to the batting order. Now they have to think about the future and plan for it, ”says Manjrekar.

He says Rohit Sharma should not open the innings and should give the opening position to any youngster.

‘Rohit has the opportunity to step aside from the role of opener. Any youngster should be given a chance to open the innings, ‘says Manjrekar.

This season has been disappointing for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians lost the first eight matches of the tournament.

Mumbai are bidding farewell to the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the embarrassment and humiliation of being the first team to be eliminated from the tournament after slipping from defeat to defeat.

Mumbai are currently bottom of the points table with just three wins from 12 matches. Mumbai have two matches left this season. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will play Mumbai in the remaining matches.
