Municipalities complain about the high costs of postal voting – and demand e-voting – domestically

This year’s National Council election brought a new record: a total of 1,436,240 voting cards were issued for the 2024 National Council election. 22.6 percent of all eligible voters in Austria took advantage of the option to vote by post – more than ever before. For comparison: five years ago it was 16.8 percent. But the voting card system is too expensive for Austrian municipalities. That is why the President of the Austrian Association of Municipalities, Johannes Pressl (ÖVP), wants to bring the topic of e-voting “back into discussion”.
