John P. Varkey is the son of the late Varkey and Veronica of Engandiyur Porathur Kittan. Studied music from Trinity College, London.
He has composed music for around 50 songs in Malayalam films such as Neithukaran, Kammatipadam, Olipor, Unnam, Eda, Penkodi and many songs in Telugu films in Kannada and Hindi. In 2007, he won an award at the Madrid Imagine India Film Festival for the music score of the Hindi film Frozen.
John P. Varkey is the man who has transformed many old folk songs into modern rock music. Burial will take place at Mullakkara Infant Jesus Church Cemetery.
