Music director K.J. Farewell to Joy, India

Chennai: Prominent music director K.J. Joy’s loved ones travelogue. At around 10:30 on Wednesday morning, Joy’s body was brought to Kalpana House, a residence on Santhome High Road, and placed for public viewing.

Filmmakers in Chennai and many friends came to pay their last respects. Music director Shyam, producer K.T. Kunjumon, secretary of the Malayalam Film Council and screenwriter C.G. Rajendra Babu, story writer Sarath Chandran and many people from the film and music industry paid their last respects.

For Confederation of Tamil Nadu Malayali Association (CTMA) General Secretary M.P. Wreath was presented under the leadership of Anwar. Most of those who came to pay his last respects were his friends from Chennai. No filmmakers from Kerala participated.

Close relatives from Thrissur reached Chennai early for last rites. His sons Ashok, Angel, Anand, Amita and Alice performed the last rites in the presence of his wife Ranjini. The body was taken to Kilpock Cemetery at 2.30 pm. The funeral was completed at half past three.

K.J. who gave Malayalam a handful of great songs. Joy (77) passed away on Monday morning. A native of Thrissur Nellikkun, he became an independent music director with the Malayalam film ‘Love Letter’ released in 1975. He composed music for about 65 Malayalam films like Lisa, Sarpam, Sayujyam, Tharangam, Manmanmrigam. Apart from Malayalam, he has composed background music for about twelve Hindi films.
