Casting show: “There were moments when I regretted taking part in Music Star”
The ex-“Music Star” participants Salome Clausen, Leo Ritzmann and Börni Höhn look back on the show that changed their lives. Soon they will be on stage together.

The first season of “Music Star” ran twenty years ago. To mark the anniversary, SRF is hosting a one-off show with the greatest talents from the four seasons. Also there: Salome Clausen (38), Leo Ritzmann (34) and Börni Höhn (37).
The three look back on the show that changed their lives in 20 minutes. «I still remember the first appearance to this day. “It was so crazy with the lights on the stage and the audience,” says Börni.
For Leo it was also the moment when he stood on the big stage at Theater 11 in Zurich for the first time. In his season, this was only the case in the fourth show. Salome can still remember the intro to the show. The jingle is burned deep into her memory.
“You have to learn to stay afloat.”

Börni and Leo are still active in the music scene. “In the meantime, I have learned to produce music and also write songs for other artists,” says Börni, who has since lived in the USA. A new song from her will be coming soon. «Making music is what makes me happiest. For a long time I only lived from that, but in the meantime I’m also doing other productions.”
Leo Ritzmann: “Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t”
Leo’s path took him straight after ‘Music Star’ to the German TV casting format ‘Popstars’, which he ultimately left as the winner. “I probably wouldn’t have been able to do that without Music Star. I learned a lot there.” Making a living from music is a constant ups and downs. “Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. You have to learn to stay afloat.” His euphoria for what lies ahead is even greater because he has a clear path ahead of him. He now sings in German and in new music genres. “What would love be” is the name of the first single.
Salome, on the other hand, has turned her back on music. She works in a marketing agency. She doesn’t regret the decision. «I was only eighteen years old when I won Music Star. It would have been very difficult for me to decide at that age that I wanted to focus on music,” she says.
Salome was exposed to criticism
After a long time in Zurich, the 38-year-old lives back in her home country, Valais. “Music Star” also had a few dark sides for her. “There were a few brief moments where I regretted my participation. I got some strong reactions and that wasn’t easy for me at that age.”
When Salome announced after an album that she was giving up her career, it led to a lot of criticism – including on the street. “I was very exposed to these situations. “I just let it go,” she remembers.
When she thinks about her participation and her victory, she feels, above all, a lot of gratitude. “Even though I’m no longer active in the business, I was able to benefit professionally from ‘Music Star’.” Salome is still asked about it today. The others are still recognized. “Especially when I’m wearing a cap,” says Börni, laughing.
SRF shows one-off “Music Star” reunion
They are not ashamed to participate. In retrospect, Leo says: “I could have been a little bolder. I was just very young and well-behaved.” Börni has to laugh when she sees her pictures from the show. «It’s like an old photo album. ‘OMG, what was I wearing and what fashion was that,’ I think to myself.”
The trio is looking forward to the reunion on March 30th. However, taking part in a casting show again is out of the question for all of them. “Above all, it’s nostalgic to appear in this format again,” says Börni.
