Multi-entrepreneur Elon Musk (50, Tesla, SpaceX) spoke out clearly in favor of nuclear power as an important part of energy policy in an interview with “Welt am Sonntag”.
In an interview conducted by Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer SE, Musk said: “Not only should you not shut down the nuclear power plants that are running, but you should also restart those that are already shut down. They can supply energy again the fastest.”
And further: “Switching off nuclear power plants now is crazy (…) As long as there is no massive risk of natural disasters – which is not the case in Germany – there is really no danger from nuclear power.”
“It’s absolute madness”
In the long term, according to Musk, “solar energy will be civilization’s greatest source of energy. But until then we have to keep nuclear power.”
Elon Musk: “I can’t stress that enough. It’s absolute madness to turn them off (…) I would even say: turning them off is a national security risk.”
