Maria Jose Quintanilla decided to tell a large part of his private life to Martin Carcamo in it “from you to you“, the star of Channel 13 where the Chilean singer recalled the complicated economic conditions in which she and, especially, her parents lived.
“It’s that when I was born my dad was evicted, yes. And they literally told my mom not to continue losing money that she doesn’t have and to go and let her husband die better at home“, explained the artist, adding that her father’s complex illness affected the household income.
In this sense, the artist said that her father suffered from “Rheumatoid arthritis“, which was the inflammation of the joints, adding that in the 90’s”there was no treatment“.
Due to this, María José Quintanilla explained the efforts made by her mother, highlighting that “she became a seamstress, a nurse, everything. And in the house everything had to keep working and there weren’t that many Lucas. So, I don’t know, my brother went to play ball at a club and they paid him with merchandise, put on that. With vegetables, with I don’t know what and that’s how we kept moving“.
María José Quintanilla and the complex economic conditions that her parents experienced
Immediately, Mega’s face commented on the efforts that her mother had to make to give her father a better life while he was suffering from this complex disease.
“Later I feel that my mother began to knock on doors and my father accepted a treatment in which he was a guinea pig. They were going to test many medications on him so that he could have a more stable life, with less pain.“, he expressed.
In addition, María José Quintanilla told the difficult anecdotes of her parents, especially when they had to live in unrecommended conditions.
“(I lived) in the house in Maipú, but before that my parents lived in camps. I feel that the one who had the worst time was Pepe (José Quintanilla, brother) because Pepe lived in camps in painful conditions. Dirt floor. I grew up in conditions that, perhaps, are also painful for anyone, but my story comes from behind. I am very grateful to have a roof, to have them well“confessed the singer.
Finally, she closed with another anecdote of how her mother helped to hide economic problems with a good attitude in the face of adversity.
“I remember once that I was eating rice with egg, rice with tomato for a long time and I asked my mother why we ate so much rice, in my innocence. Because rice is very good (replied the mother). My mom always created a super healthy environment. There’s the shit… but my mom always created this parallel world for me where everything is fine, she didn’t have to worry me“, concluded María José Quintanilla.
