The bodies of three American tourists found dead in a luxury resort in the Bahamas will be autopsied Monday to try to determine the cause of these enigmatic deaths, announced the police of the Caribbean archipelago.

Samples taken from the bodies of the victims and in the villas where they resided will also be the subject of toxicological analyzes, added the chief of police of the Bahamas, Paul Rolle, during a press conference.
These analyzes must determine whether the deaths are due to a type of contaminant or to food, he said.
The results of these tests, carried out with the help of an American laboratory, should be available within a week, said Mr. Rolle.
A 68-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife, from Tennessee in the southern United States, and a 64-year-old resident of Florida (southeast) were found dead Friday morning at Sandals Emerald Bay on the island of Great Exuma, about 200 km southeast of the capital, Nassau.
The Florida man’s wife, who was found unresponsive, was transferred to a Miami hospital where she remains in serious condition, Rolle said.
The two couples were staying in adjoining villas and each victim said they felt unwell the day before they died, the police officer said.
But they “reported being sick at different times and were treated at different locations,” which made it difficult for resort staff to make the connection, he said.
Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper ruled out Saturday that the deaths were the result of foul play.
