For the past week, the ASBL Tour des sites has been setting up its equipment at the Confluence. This Friday, at the initiative of the Central Committee of Wallonia (CCW), it will highlight four Namur monuments: the Walloon parliament, the Halle al’Chair, the citadel and, finally, the Delta. Tests have been carried out in recent evenings, which many Namur residents have not failed to notice. “From Friday at 9.30 p.m., we will be offering an exceptional and free 25-minute show of sound, light and laser show, comments Paul Licot, director and spokesperson for the ASBL. We hope to amaze the spectators .”
This show has a name: video mapping. In a few words, the buildings mentioned will come to life thanks to 3D projections. The show will be accompanied by a story and even speakers. “In short, I can assure you that there will be many, many things to see in 25 minutes.”
Obviously, since it is a question of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Fêtes de Wallonie, the show will retrace the birth of this event dear to the Walloons. “There will be two central characters who will tell their story, their point of view: the Grognon and the creator of the Fêtes in 1923, the deputy François Bovesse. We will weave the historical, truthful facts into a more romantic web. The story will tell that François Bovesse stopped at Le Grognon and decided, thanks to the meeting of the Sambre and the Meuse, that he was in the heart of Wallonia. It was at this precise moment that he decided to create the festive event that we all know. More than the two characters, the red thread of our story is water. It symbolically represents culture, folklore, traditions but also the economy. We We will also tell what these celebrations are for, its values conveyed for 100 years. There is also a philosophical aspect, very poetic.”
With the stilts
The icing on the cake is that speakers will participate in the show. Paul Licot, whom we met on Wednesday evening, does not wish to reveal everything. But there will be fire-eaters, a kind of luminous parade and, above all, a fight of stilt walkers. “All that in 25 minutes. So you understand that it will be intense. I sincerely think that whoever attends the show every night will experience a different show.”
For the association, accustomed for 30 years to this kind of exercise, it is an exceptional event. “This is the first time since our creation that we are working on four different locations on such a prestigious site and on such an emblematic date. It is a real challenge, especially since the adjustments will no doubt be made until the last moment. .”
Finally, the Central Committee of Wallonia has launched an appeal to all residents of Namur and Jambois around the Confluence site to turn off their lights during the show. “If everyone plays the game, it will be great.” An exceptional and unique way to already launch the Fêtes de Wallonie. “This show is a colossal budget. If it was born, it is also thanks to the financial contribution of many partners. The next one may be rescheduled in 100 years but there, I will no longer be there (laughs).”
Disruptions on the roads: the access roads and the Confluence car park closed for one hour
From Friday to Tuesday evening, at 9.20 p.m., the access roads to the Confluence site will be closed to traffic until 10.30 p.m., the time of the show scheduled for around 9.30 p.m. “Because we will use streets like a stage”, adds Paul Licot, director of the ASBL Tour des sites. Diversions will be put in place. It will also no longer be possible to enter or leave the Confluence car park just before and during the show. “For those who wish to park in this car park, we suggest that they come earlier or go and have a bite to eat in the city center before attending the show.” Alternatives exist as indicated by the CCW on the Wallonia Festival website: the Beffroi car park, the City Hall car park or even that of Namur Expo and P + R Saint-Nicolas.
