The Earthquake Prediction Center of the Central Meteorological Administration stated that before the 5.1 main shock occurred last night, two “foreshocks” with a magnitude of 3.3 had occurred at 8:52 and 9:59, and there were aftershocks after the main shock. A total of 7 earthquakes were observed. Remind the public that there may be 3-4 aftershocks in the next 5-7 days.

The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 was centered in Zhushan Town, Nantou County, with a depth of 15.1 kilometers. Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, and Changhua all had a maximum magnitude of 4. The Earthquake Prediction Center of the Bureau of Meteorology said that from the two foreshocks at 8:52 p.m. on March 19 and the 5.1-scale main shock at 11:23 p.m. to 2:17 a.m. on March 20, seven earthquakes had been observed.
Lin Boyou, director of the Earthquake Prediction Center, said, “Before the 5.1 earthquake, we detected two earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 3 o’clock. These two earthquakes belonged to its foreshocks, and four felt earthquakes were subsequently observed.”
The Earthquake Prediction Center of the Bureau of Meteorology pointed out that the scale of foreshocks and aftershocks was between 3.1 and 3.6, with a maximum magnitude of 2. Compared with the epicenter, there is no fault, and the cause of the earthquake may be caused by the “fractured zone”. Lin Boyou, director of the Earthquake Forecasting Center, said, “Our current research and judgment on this earthquake is mainly related to the local fractured zone, and the fault is still correct. relationship.”
The Bureau of Meteorology estimates that there may be aftershocks of magnitude 3 to 4 in the next 5 to 7 days, reminding the public to pay attention.
