The InSight probe NASA shared a series of images that show what a sunrise is like in Marte. The captures were recorded on April 10 by this explorer robot that aims to study the soil of the red planet.
Of course, a sunrise on Mars is a different experience than what happens on Earth, something that the technical team in charge of InSight made clear on Twitter. “I will never get tired of sunrise on Mars. Every morning, that distant dot climbs higher into the sky, fueling me for another round of listening to the rumble beneath my feet,” the robot’s account posted on social media.

The record shows that sunrise on Mars shows a unique bluish hue. According to astronomers, the planet’s fine dust makes the blue in the part of the sky closest to the Sun much more prominent, while normal daylight causes the rusty dust color so characteristic of Martian soil to become more notorious.
Scientists explain that these images help determine how high in the atmosphere Martian dust extends, which can help search for dust or ice clouds.
InSight’s mission has been extended until the end of 2022. This date will be subject to problems that the robot may experience related to Martian dust. When this happens, the vehicle will be able to enjoy a well-deserved rest after contributing to the knowledge that humans have about the red planet.
