“National Demonstration in Brussels Against Social Dumping and Right to Strike Attacks Organized by Union Common Front (CSC, FGTB and CGSLB)”

Between 10,000 and 15,000 people will walk the streets of Brussels on Monday to protest against social dumping and “severe attacks on the right to strike”, as part of a national demonstration organized by the union common front (CSC, FGTB and CGSLB).

The Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (Stib) announces Monday at dawn that only metro line 1 is served, as well as a few tram and bus lines, while mobility in the capital will be disrupted by a national demonstration . In Wallonia, the CET is also subject to disturbances, sometimes more significant depending on the region.

A day of action against social dumping is organized by the union common front (CSC, FGTB and CGSLB) from 10:00 am. But its effects are already noticeable in public transport with metros that run only on line 1 (extended to Erasmus). Tram lines 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 51 (limited to Guillaume De Greef) and 92 (limited to Sainte-Marie) are operational, indicates Stib on its website and social networks. As for the buses, they run well on lines 12, 34, 36, 46 (only Moortebeek-Anneessens), 50, 53, 59, 65, 71, 87 (extended to Etangs Noirs), 88, 95 and T-bus 92 .

All other lines are not operated.

In Wallonia, the TEC is also faced with a strike by part of its staff. All disruptions are listed on the website (www.letec.be) of the public transport company, which lists all the lines removed on Monday. It seems that the region of Liège-Verviers is particularly affected, the TEC evoking “very significant disturbances”.

The demonstration will start at 10:00 am from Brussels-North station, where a series of trade union speeches will be delivered. The procession will then set off around 11:00 a.m. and head towards the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (FEB), then towards the Palace of Justice.

Almost three months after the announcement by Delhaize management to franchise its 128 integrated stores, union anger has not faded.

This prospect triggered an unprecedented conflict in the Belgian trade sector, both in terms of its length and the ardor of the dispute. Despite the intervention of a social conciliator, the sign with the lion remains mired in the social impasse.

In addition to the franchise plan, which the unions fear will lead to a deterioration in working conditions coupled with a “drastic” reduction in employment, the legal measures recently adopted by Delhaize to curb the strike movement have provoked a union outcry.
