MANAMA, 23rd June, WAM/ The delegation of the National Human Rights Authority, headed by Maqsoud Cruz, Chairman of the National Human Rights Authority, and Eng. Rights and freedoms, and increasing societal awareness of various common human rights issues, and ways of immediate and effective response to human rights issues.
This came during the Commission’s delegation’s visit to the National Institution for Human Rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain recently, as the visit included a series of fruitful official meetings and visits.
The delegation was received by His Excellency Engineer Ali Muhammad Ahmed Al-Derazi, his deputy, members of the Board of Commissioners and the Secretary-General of the Corporation.
During a tour of the institution’s headquarters, the delegation was briefed on an introductory visual presentation, in addition to learning about the institution’s work, its establishment, its terms of reference, the work mechanisms of its permanent quality committees, the Complaints and Follow-up Committee, the Committee for Visiting Places of Detention and Facilities, and the Public Rights and Freedoms Committee.
His Excellency Maqsoud Cruz and members of the delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm reception, as they were briefed by the specialized directors of the National Institution for Human Rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain about the institution, appreciating the cooperation between the two parties in the fields of human rights.
For his part, His Excellency Eng. Ali Mohamed Ahmed Al-Derazi emphasized the strengthening of fruitful cooperation and coordination between the two sides in everything that serves the values of human rights.
As part of the efforts to strengthen bilateral partnership and cooperation in developing human rights strategies between the National Commission for Human Rights and the concerned institutions and sectors in the brotherly Kingdom of Bahrain, the delegation, headed by His Excellency Maqsoud Cruz, visited the Human Rights Affairs Sector at the headquarters of the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they were received by Arwa Al-Sayed, Head of the Sector. With the aim of exchanging experiences, learning about best practices in the field of human rights, and discussing the best ways of joint cooperation.
The delegation, headed by His Excellency Maqsoud Cruz, also held a meeting with Mr. Mohammed Al-Zubari, Head of the Special Investigation Unit at the headquarters of the Bahraini Public Prosecution Office. The meeting dealt with the role of the unit in applying human rights standards and principles in a way that contributes to the achievement of justice, as an independent judicial body.
The delegation also visited the headquarters of the Ombudsman in the Bahraini Ministry of Interior, where the visit included reviewing the secretariat’s work mechanisms and procedures in the field of human rights grievances.
His Excellency Maqsoud Cruz, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, stressed the importance of these visits within the framework of the continuous efforts to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences.
