2024-01-19 21:07:00

  • Thanks to the 3-2 win against Bern in the National League, Lugano moved within one point of the “Mutzen”.
  • After beating champions Geneva-Servette 6-1, Fribourg-Gottéron takes over the table lead from the ZSC Lions, who have no games.
  • Ajoie surprisingly takes three points from Zug (2:1).

Bern – English 2:3

Michael Joly continued his run in Bern. The Canadian in Lugano’s service had already left his mark on the last game with a goal and three assists against the Lakers. He added his 14th and 15th goals of the season against the “Mutzen”. While the 1-0 (4th) was still an easy exercise, Joly showed all his skills in the 2-0: He successfully completed a solo run (36th). Bern fought self-sacrificingly in the third period and came close twice. The next goal by Joona Luoto to make it 2:3 (60th) came too late. Thanks to the complete success in the direct duel, sixth-placed Lugano moved within one point of fifth-placed Bern. Bern will have the opportunity to repair the gap again on Saturday in the “re-match” in Ticino.

Fribourg-Gottéron – Genf-Servette 6:1

The game was started in the 14th minute of the game at the latest. First Chris DiDomenico was sent to the cooler, 15 seconds later Samuel Walser put Gottéron in the lead when he was outnumbered. During the same penalty, the visitors equalized through Sami Vatanen. Christoph Bertschy (17th) took the hosts’ lead again in the first third, Samuel Walser increased shortly after the middle of the game. In the third third, the Freiburg team went for the freestyle, Sandro Schmid (52nd) and Killian Mottet (53rd) continued to increase for Gottéron, Lucas Wallmark put the final point at 6:1 with a double majority. This means that Freiburg is the new leader, at least until Saturday evening.

Zug – Ajoie 1:2

In the first third (13th), Dario Simion gave EV Zug the lead. But the sedate Central Swiss team failed to extend their lead. So after 40 minutes played it was “only” 1-0 in favor of Central Switzerland. Dan Tangnes’ team should get the reward in the third period. Within 22 seconds, Frédérik Gauthier and Matteo Romanenghi turned the game in Ajoie’s favor. The Jurassic team didn’t let their guard down and surprisingly took three points from the Bossard Arena.

Ambri – Biel 2:3

The game in the Gottardo Arena only really got going after the middle of the game. Yanik Burren gave Biel the lead with a shorthander in the 32nd minute after a penalty against teammate Yanick Stampfli. However, Ambri didn’t let that go: 3 seconds before the penalty expired, Tim Heed managed to equalize 1-1. Yannick Rathgeb (on a pass from Damien Brunner, who scored his 600th scoring point in the National League) and Gaëtan Haas brought about the preliminary decision in favor of the Zealanders in the final period, while Lilja Jakob was only able to make cosmetic results two seconds before the end. Biel moves up to 9th place in the table after the 4th win from the last 5 games.

SCL Tigers – Lakers 2:5

The game between the table neighbors Tigers (11th) and Lakers (12th) dragged on for a long time due to many penalties, a fight in the middle of the game and further interruptions. In the end it was 5:2 for the guests on the video dice. Two of the total 17 penalties proved to be decisive: in the 19th minute, Nicklas Jensen finished off a wonderful power relay over Tyler Moy and Roman Cervenka to make it 3-1. In the 29th minute, Maxime Noreau made it 4-1 straight from the penalty box after a Langnauer power play had expired. Despite having 40 shots on goal, the Tigers had to leave the ice as losers for the 10th time in the last 11 games.
