National News Agency – “Italy Brothers” party won more than 26% of the total votes in the preliminary results of the legislative elections

NNA – Rome – The preliminary results of the legislative elections in Italy were released and matched what was stated in the polls. The right-wing coalition led by the “Brothers of Italy” party ranked first with more than 46 percent of the vote, the first of its kind since the end of World War II. The center-left led by the Democratic Party suffered a setback, even though it brings together 14 left and center organizations within it. The Five Star Movement ranked third. The Brothers of Italy is presented in the House and Senate as well.

Preliminary results are half the number of votes counted and indicate that the center-right coalition has obtained at least 114 seats and secures the possibility of governing independently. The “Italy Brothers” obtained 43 percent of the total votes of the center-right coalition, or more than 26 percent of the total votes voters. And the Democratic Party got less than 20 percent, the minimum in its history.

The victory of the coalition guarantees control of both houses of parliament, and the leader of the “Brothers of Italy” party, Georgia Meloni, becomes the biggest winner and may be able to get the prime minister.

The Italian Democratic Party conceded defeat in the elections, and said it would become the largest opposition bloc in Parliament. As for Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party, it achieved 8.2 percent, the League 7 percent, and Italy’s Viva, led by former Prime Minister Matteo Renci, 7 percent.
Meloni announced that she would lead the next government, and added in a speech to her supporters, that her party “will rule in the interest of all Italians in the event that it is assigned to form the government.” “The situation in the country is difficult and needs everyone’s help. The Italian people chose us and we will not disappoint them,” she said.

The voter turnout reached 73 percent, compared to 63 percent in 2018.
