Sunday March 17, 2024 is the Day of National Unity, of the Constitution, of the Anthem and of the Flag. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella went to Piazza Venezia in Rome to celebrate the day. The Head of State reviewed the representatives of the armed forces, alongside him the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, with him the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the presidents of the Chamber and Senate, Lorenzo Fontana and Ignazio La Russa. The soldiers sang the Mameli anthem, then the head of state, to the tune of the legend of the Piave, climbed the steps of the Vittoriano to pay homage to the unknown soldier. Then the minute of silence, with the crown placed by the cuirassiers.
Mattarella recalled that «Paper, anthem and Tricolor symbolize the Republic», and that Unity has made the future of the Italian people richer. Prime Minister Meloni instead underlined that this day is an opportunity to renew the commitment to an increasingly united Italy. The institutions, he finally underlined, must be the first to set an example of responsibility and union.

«Today – Mattarella recalled -, the Constitution, the Italian Anthem and the Tricolor symbolize the Italian Republic. The truer the ideal of our unity, the richer in opportunities the future of the Italian people will be.
