Rather, only a celebration is planned, which is expected to take place in Brussels. According to the newspaper, high-ranking NATO circles gave the reason for a decision against an anniversary summit next spring that such a meeting would be too close to the summit in Vilnius in July 2023.
Another reason, according to “Welt am Sonntag”, is that US President Joe Biden wants to use the NATO summit in Washington to kick off his election campaign. The election of the new US President will take place on November 5, 2024. According to the report, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen are the favorites to succeed NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. French President Emmanuel Macron is now supporting Frederiksen, the newspaper reported.
