On Tuesday, July 11, Vilnius hosted the first of two days of the NATO summit. One of its main topics was the allies’ response to Ukraine’s membership in the alliance. The summit was attended by leaders of Western countries that are part of the North Atlantic bloc. URA.RU gives the main statements from the summit:

NATO countries agreed the necessary wording regarding Ukraine’s membership in NATO. Kyiv will be invited to NATO by decision of all members of the alliance and subject to the fulfillment of all necessary conditions, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. NATO countries agreed Ukraine support package. Among the elements of assistance to Kyiv is the removal of the requirements for the action plan for membership in NATO. In the event of Ukraine’s defeat in the conflict with Russia, the question of the country’s membership in NATO will be removed. Instead of offering Kyiv to become a member of the alliance, the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance decided establish a NATO-Ukraine Council. NATO and Ukraine now sit as equal members to advance political dialogue, engagement, cooperation, and Kyiv’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for alliance membership.
