NATO wants to stake out future line at summit

At the summit meeting beginning tomorrow in Madrid, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg pledged the military alliance to intensify its joint defense efforts.

“The summit in Madrid is crucial,” said Stoltenberg today in the Spanish capital at a joint appearance with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The meeting is all about the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

“In an Increasingly Dangerous World”

The new strategic concept will become “NATO’s blueprint in an increasingly dangerous and unpredictable world,” said Stoltenberg. He announced fundamental changes to deterrence and defense with military forces positioned further forward on NATO’s borders and equipped with material available there.

Stoltenberg also announced further aid to Ukraine to support the country’s self-defense. “It is extremely important that we stand ready to provide further support because Ukraine is experiencing a level of brutality that we have not seen since World War II,” Stoltenberg said.
