According to the Mayo Clinic health portal, erectile dysfunction or impotence is the inability to achieve and maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse.

It is important to mention that experiencing erection difficulties is not necessarily a cause for concern. However, if the problem is frequent, it may indicate the presence of an underlying medical condition that requires treatment. In addition, this can generate stress, affect self-confidence, and even cause problems in relationships.

If you are worried about erectile dysfunction, you should visit your doctor so you can find a treatment that will help you. However, although this does not replace medical treatment, you can do some physical exercises that will help you with impotence.

A study in the ‘Journal of Sexual Medicine’ has collected data from 11 studies that analyze the impact of exercise, on the one hand, and the use of drugs such as Viagra or Cialis to combat impotence.

In research they found that exercise has quite a few benefits, as it improves cardiovascular health, mood, fitness, and as men age, it can be beneficial for those experiencing erectile dysfunction.

1,100 men (between 43 and 69 years old) participated in the study. 600 of the participants trained an aerobic activity 3 to 5 times a week for 30 minutes to an hour. The other 500 were in the control group.

The experts found that volunteers who exercised experienced an average improvement of 5 points in erectile function (the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) was used for this measure). Additionally, volunteers with the most severe conditions benefited the most.

Men who received Viagra or Cialis achieved improvements of between 4 and 8 points. On the other hand, those who received testosterone replacement therapy improved erectile function by only two points. The researchers concluded aerobic activity is a valid alternative to the use of drugs to combat impotence.
