NBA Basketball: Three-point led for Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are currently in the NBA playoffs against the Miami Heat. They may be two games behind, but tomorrow they can catch up on their home court, State Farm Arena. The fans will support the team here – and they will soon be informed and entertained by modern LED technology.

Daktronics installs a three-sided display and two parking deck displays on the exterior of the stadium in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It should be completed this spring. All three screens have a 10 millimeter pixel pitch.

“As downtown continues to evolve with two world-class sports and entertainment facilities and the development of Centennial Yards, we are excited about these new elements that we believe will become city landmarks,” said Steve Koonin, CEO of the Hawks and the State Farm Arena. “The State Farm Arena is one of the finest arenas in the world by any measure and their new tent will showcase the building’s incredible atmosphere and energy in a breathtaking way. The spectacular scoreboard will complement it with the bright lights and visuals reminiscent of Times Square.”

LED displays: Boston Arena upgrades

The new three-sided billboard is located directly above the State Farm Arena underground rapid transit station on Centennial Olympic Park Drive.

Two sides of the screen are around 12.8 meters high and 9.1 meters wide, the third side is 5.1 meters wide with the same height. The displays together have 2.9 million LEDs and 3,276 square meters of digital space to inform about upcoming events, partnerships and the like. The content can be designed individually for each page or spread over all three pages as one large image.

Basketball and DooH combined

“Bringing the excitement from inside the building to the outside is an exciting next step in the improvement of State Farm Arena,” said Brent Stevens, Daktronics Professional Sports Manager. “It’s great to be involved in this project as it showcases the technical capabilities of our company and how venues can leverage those capabilities combined with our LED technology to enhance the experience for their fans and spectators. It is exciting to be a partner with State Farm Arena and to help transform the area around the arena and we look forward to watching the area come to life over the years to come.”

Two new displays will also greet spectators on the arena’s parking deck. A circular display will be 5.4 meters in diameter and a wrap display will be 10.9 meters high and 42 meters wide. With these displays, an additional 4.8 million LEDs and 5,385 square meters of digital signage will be installed outside the stadium.

These displays will also be available to DooH partners to reach downtown Atlanta’s more than 20 million annual visitors.
