NBA Finals Game 2: Miami Heat take home advantage as Denver Nuggets struggle with effort

Game 2 of the NBA Finals has just delivered its verdict, and the Heat managed to beat the Nuggets at home, inflicting on the Colorado franchise its first loss at home in the 2023 Playoffs. After the meeting, the Denver veteran Jeff Green expressed his frustration with the collective effort of his people and felt that everyone had to do better.

We had left the Nuggets sure of their strength and serene after the opening game of these NBA Finals, we found them borrowed or even dominated in this second round. From the first minutes, the Mile High City was annexed by a horde of vengeful Floridians, revengeful and eager to take their revenge against the mountaineers. The first quarter was in favor of Miami. If Denver then took control, the Nuggets ate a devastating 36-25 in the money time to go back to South Beach without home advantage. For Jeff Green and Mike Malone, it’s all about effort now, to leave Miami with at least one victory, to reset the counters. However, the two men are shocked that at this stage of the season, we can question this aspect.

“Fuck, it’s the NBA Finals. We have to play with more energy. We can’t play like we did, we have to be better.”

– Jeff Green

“Let’s talk about our efforts. It’s the NBA Finals, and we’re talking about effort… That’s my big concern […] This leaves me puzzled and disappointed.”

– Mike Malone

Aside from the end of the first quarter and the start of the second, during which the Rockies franchise made the hole, the same level of energy was not displayed by the team throughout the game. Mike Malone is used to asking a lot of effort from his guys, but the Nuggets coach was obviously disappointed with the overall body language of his team today, which did not seem to measure the stakes of this Game 2 .

As for Jeff Green, he embraces his role as a veteran wonderfully by always asking more work from his teammates, he who knows well what it means after more than fifteen years and ten teams in the league and an open heart surgery in 2012, after which he might never have played our beloved sport again. Green therefore measures his luck while knowing the work necessary to get there, his role as an elder is crucial here, and banging his fist on the table could well wake up his troops.
