Like the Delta variant before it, the Omicron variant generated “little brothers” by replicating. These sub-lines contain one or two mutations compared to the original genome. BA.2, a sub-variant of Omicron, thus appeared a few weeks ago and is now being closely scrutinized by scientists: if according to the Minister of Health it does not “change the game”, its precise characteristics, still unknown, question.
Indeed, BA.2 would thus have become the majority in Denmark where the number of daily cases has started to rise again for a few days. “There are variants fairly regularly,” recalled Thursday evening the Minister of Health Olivier Véran during a press conference with the Prime Minister. “As far as we know so far, it more or less matches the characteristics we know of Omicron.” He’s not “game-changing” at this point.
