Nebraska Wesleyan men’s golf secured a third-place team finish at the Blue River Classic, driven by a standout performance that included a top-five individual showing from Harrison Weddell, who tied for fifth place.
The early-season collegiate golf tournament brought together competitive regional programs on the links, offering an immediate test of depth and preparation for fall rosters.
According to Southeast CC Athletics, the Southeast Community College men’s golf team captured the tournament title at the Blue River Classic—held concurrently at the Highlands Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska—by establishing a new school record 54-hole team score of 13 under par. Doane University finished second at six under par, while Iowa Western Community College claimed third in that specific framing at two under par. Individually, Southeast CC golfer Hayden Delaloye tied the lowest 9-hole score in SCC history (29, -7).
Tournament Standings and Competitive Field
The action at the Blue River event demonstrated the high level of regional competition as programs opened their fall slates. The final standings at the top of the tournament featured distinct separations among the visiting squads:
- First Place: Southeast CC (-13)
- Second Place: Doane University (-6)
- Third Place: Iowa Western CC (-2)
- Fourth Place: Doane University (B) (+29)
- Fifth Place: Dordt College (+32)
Nebraska Wesleyan’s strong showing, capped by Harrison Weddell tying for fifth individually, placed them firmly in the upper tier of the broader event alongside these top-performing programs.
Early-Season Test for Regional Programs
Southeast CC Head Coach Calvin Freeman noted the difficulty of managing early-semester logistics while getting squads tournament-ready.
“It’s a great feeling to start the year with a win. I’m especially proud of Hayden Delaloye, who won his first college tournament,” Freeman said, as reported by Southeast CC Athletics. “It’s encouraging to see solid play out of our newcomers, as well as the improvements over the past year from our returning players.”
Freeman added that early sharpness builds essential confidence as teams look toward a demanding fall schedule where roster depth and consistency will dictate weekly results.
