Negativity toward elections allows others to fill the void

The Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, considered boycotting the elections as surrender, and said: “We do not want to hand Lebanon over to the enemies of Arabism.”

He added, during his meeting with the ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council, that “the upcoming parliamentary elections are an important detail in Lebanon’s history, and we have given our directives and instructions to our Lebanese sons and brothers to participate, not boycott, and none of the officials called for a boycott.”

He considered that “the election is a religious and national decision and duty that cannot be underestimated, and whoever wins these elections will be the free and democratic choice of the Lebanese, and we must realize that the elections and who wins them determine the course of Lebanon and its relations with its Arab brothers and friends.”

He pointed out that “Lebanon is going through a delicate and sensitive stage that requires unifying ranks and consolidating and strengthening Lebanese relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the Arab countries and friendly countries for the benefit of Lebanon and the Lebanese who suffer from the state’s failure to address economic and living issues.”

The media office in Dar Al-Fatwa indicated, in a statement, after the meeting, that the ambassadors hoped that “the upcoming parliamentary elections will be carried out with all transparency to reflect the aspirations and hopes of the Lebanese,” considering that “negativity towards the upcoming parliamentary elections does not build a nation and opens the way for others to fill the void and define Lebanon’s identity.” and its Arab people.

They also considered that “the ambassadors’ message to the Lebanese is a directive to prioritize their national interest over any other interest, and that participation in the elections to reach the seat of Parliament should be for those who preserve Lebanon, its sovereignty, freedom, Arabism, and territorial integrity.”

The delegation included the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait Abdul-Aal Al-Qena’i, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar Ibrahim Al-Sahlawi, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Walid Bukhari.
