NEOS consider the turquoise demarcation of Kickl to be implausible

The NEOS do not believe the ÖVP’s polyphonic demarcation from the Freedom Party under Herbert Kickl. “The ÖVP’s embarrassing spectacle of not wanting to form a coalition with the Kickl-FPÖ is one thing above all: unbelievable,” said NEOS Secretary General Douglas Hoyos in a broadcast on Saturday. He recalled the ÖVP-FPÖ coalitions that were forged in Lower Austria and Salzburg this year.

In both cases, the aversion to a blue government partner was reminiscent of the statements “that the spindoctors have now prescribed for the ÖVP representatives as language rules,” said the NEOS Secretary General. “Mikl-Leitner had decidedly ruled out working with Udo Landbauer after the song book affair. Wilfried Haslauer literally said that his current government partner and deputy as state governor Marlene Svazek has ‘kickl in his luggage’,” Hoyos counted the statements of those ÖVP state governors who, despite all the protestations before the election, are now in coalition with the Kickl-FPÖ.

The NEOS Secretary General was certain that the ÖVP’s “transparent election campaign” would fail in any case, because: “Anyone who lies once is not trusted.”

The People’s Party continued to turn its carousel of rejection on Saturday. This time it was defense spokesman Friedrich Ofenauer who, because of “Sky Shield”, stated that “Herbert Kickl took a wrong-way driver course on security policy” and identified FPÖ-internal resistance to it. FPÖ spokesman Volker Reifenberger immediately rejected this: “It doesn’t matter how often the ÖVP claims that the FPÖ is at odds on this issue – it’s untrue!”

ÖVP General Secretary Christian Stocker did not want to hear anything about the criticism of NEOS. “Anyone who describes the clear position on ‘Sky Shield’ as an election campaign or tactic has little to do with security policy,” he explained in a broadcast: “Apparently the NEOS, like the FPÖ, only see an election campaign issue in security policy – and lose with it as well any credibility in security issues. However, security policy is and will remain a core concern of the People’s Party. And anyone who endangers this cannot be a credible partner for the People’s Party.”
