Hoyos: “In the fight to retain power, the People’s Party is prepared to drag the backbone of domestic prosperity into mudslinging.”
Vienna (OTS) – At the end of yesterday’s National Council meeting, ÖVP MP Andreas Hanger caused great irritation and shaking of heads among many entrepreneurs and the NEOS. He announced that his party wants to extend the committee of inquiry decided by the SPÖ and FPÖ into COFAG payments to all around 240,000 companies that received support services during the corona pandemic. The ongoing election campaign announced by the ÖVP, SPÖ and FPÖ now threatens to affect and damage the domestic economy, while it is already in a difficult situation due to the recession.
“Instead of learning from the illegality of COFAG as determined by the Constitutional Court and taking responsibility, the ÖVP is now planning to fight the party-political dispute on the backs of the entrepreneurs. The People’s Party has thus given up its last claim to represent business and entrepreneurship. “In the fight to retain power, it is prepared to drag the backbone of domestic prosperity into mudslinging,” said NEOS Secretary General Douglas Hoyos, understanding the dissatisfaction of the business community.

What Austria’s companies now urgently need is concrete relief, above all the long-overdue reduction in non-wage labor costs, which would also give employees more money in their accounts. “With their bickering, the ÖVP, SPÖ and FPÖ are endangering the business location and thus jobs and prosperity,” said Hoyos. NEOS are very surprised “that so far there has been no outcry from Economic Chamber President Mahrer against the mudslinging plans of his party colleagues.” The ÖVP and the Greens have “completely screwed up COFAG, this shouldn’t fall on the entrepreneurs’ heads.” In any case, NEOS would not take part in the expected “entrepreneur bashing”. “We will continue to work on solutions,” explains Hoyos and, in addition to the “Aufschwung Austria” initiative, also points to the successful work of UNOS.
