JEFF STEPHENS

CHARLESTON — Gov. Jim Justice made it official Thursday followingnoon when he announced he had appointed Sherrard Middle School teacher Jeff Stephens as the new state delegate for District 6, representing Marshall County.

Stephens replaces former Del. Charlie Reynolds. The Republican resigned from the position earlier this month to take a job as superintendent of District 6 for the West Virginia Division of Highways.

Stephens serves as Sherrard’s athletic director, having coached girls basketball and football during his tenure. He also has been a recipient of an honorary Golden Horseshoe following having produced 13 Golden Horseshoe winners from his West Virginia studies classes.

“I know the state and its issues very well from teaching West Virginia studies,” Stephens said. “I’m just waiting to get started.”
