Between the entrance to CHU Pasteur 2 and the Galet amphitheater, you can see the Abbey of Saint-Pons, which you will soon be able to access via the monumental staircase, currently under construction. Because the work of the second phase of the Pasteur 2 hospital continues. The new building will be delivered in February 2025. While the various departments are moving in, patients will be able to come and receive care there a few weeks later.

The mayor of Nice and chairman of the supervisory board of the CHU Christian Estrosi made a site visit yesterday alongside the director general of the CHU, Rodolphe Bourret. Health professionals were also present, in particular the president of the Establishment Medical Commission (CME), Pr Jacques Levraut, and the dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Nice, Pr Jean Dellamonica. Because obviously they were associated with the project. “We worked with all the services, the caregivers but also the representatives of the users”confirms Kévin Rossignol, director of the material resources division of the CHU. If you want to know what it will look like, just look at what already exists since this phase 2 is a continuation of the previous one. »

One of the largest hyperbaric chambers

Phase 2 is a continuation of the first, opened in 2015, and will be completed in 2025. On the right, the monumental staircase leading to the Abbey of Saint-Pons. Sebastien Bottle.

The activities will be distributed between the different floors. On level 1 will be imaging, outpatient consultations and also the new hyperbaric chamber. “He will be one of the greatest in France and Europe”says Professor Levraut. This is good news for the establishment because we will be able to treat more patients, especially since the field of indications can be extended. » On the upper level, the operating theaters with 30 rooms (i.e. 10 new ones including 3 dedicated to interventional cardiology and a hybrid room allowing surgery and interventional work to be done at the same time), ambulatory rooms and critical care . This level is completed, the following remain until the seventh to be built.

Quality support

At the bottom, the first slice of Pasteur 2 which will be connected to this second. Sebastian Bottle.

New: the building will notably receive more than 70 day hospitalization places in pulmonology, cardiology, rheumatology, etc. The ambulatory platform has been enlarged, which has resulted in tripling the reception capacity (81 places). A floor will also be devoted to research.

“It is a pleasure to be here to follow this work started a few years ago and which finds its realization in a well-defined schedule., welcomed Rodolphe Bourret. The director general of the CHU assured that “the building will be fully operational by June – July 2025”.

The enthusiasm is shared by the mayor. “The Nice University Hospital must regain its place among the major hospitals in France and for this we are fortunate to welcome talents in the field of care, research and innovation but also and above all committed teams. on a daily basis to provide quality care.” Christian Estrosi did not fail to recall that the people of Nice took over phase 1 of Pasteur 2 as soon as it opened in 2015. The second will complete and improve the care offer in two years.

Level 2 is over, here begins the third. There will be 7 in total. Sebastian Bottle.

Doctors now more involved in the management of the CHU

The site visit was an opportunity for the general manager of the Nice University Hospital to announce a major change. “We want to medicalize hospital organization by decentralizing administration and simplifying processes”summarizes Rodolphe Bourret. We would be the first CHU in France to embark on this new organization. » Effectively, however, this is nothing new for the man who made identical changes when he was head of the Valenciennes hospital, which he left for Nice at the start of the year. Moreover, this has given very good results in the establishment in the North, which caregivers acclaim in particular for this reason.

The news was welcomed by Christian Estrosi and CME President Prof. Levraut. The latter does not hesitate to speak of “revolution. The heads of the 15 poles that make up the CHU [ce sont tous des médecins] will take on much more importance in the management of the hospital. This amounts to leaving the opportunity to those who practice medicine to orchestrate it. This measure was adopted unanimously. It’s a very disruptive organization that will require rethinking a lot of things, but we are convinced that it will bring benefits, including for patients whose care will be more efficient.”

More efficient

And the professional takes an example: “If a head of center decides to develop an activity, he will present it to a strategic commission composed mainly of caregivers. He will thus have a quick response whereas before we wasted time and efficiency in long procedures.”

For the President of GCE, “adjustments will have to be made, the heads of the poles will be more solicited because they will be more involved in the management of the hospital. The objective is to be ready to implement these changes in 2024.”

130,000m²: the area of the new building.

537 hospital beds.

81 outpatient places.

30 operating theaters.

145 million euros: the cost of this phase 2.
