This proposal had to go through the Assembly of Owners of the Liga MXand once it was done, it was decided that it would not be eliminated, and only the number of teams participating in the final phase of the tournament would be reduced.

The final stage with 12 teams delivered four tickets to qualify directly for the quarterfinals and gave away four playoff matches. The measure was imposed after the losses that the teams had due to the Coronavirus pandemic and served to fulfill pending commitments to sponsors and television stations.

The proposal to reduce the repechage it was made after the failure of the Mexican National Team, in Qatar 2022. The team led by Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino stayed in the group stage and measures were considered to increase the level of the Liga MX.

The Apertura 2023 tournament is scheduled to start on June 30, 2023, while the Closing Tournament 2024 is considered to start on January 12, 2024.

Among the modifications for next season are that they will be reduced from eight to seven foreigners on the field and that the team that scores the most points in the two tournaments will have a financial prize, a pass to the Concacaf Champions League and a place in the round of 32 of the Leagues Cup.
