New design and AI: iOS 18 should be “particularly impressive”.

Above all, new AI applications will be built into iOS 18.

Apple is apparently planning a particularly big leap for the next version of the iPhone operating system. Artificial intelligence and a new design are coming.

Every year, alongside a new iPhone, a new version of its iOS operating system is released. Owners of older models will also receive a few new features this fall. But in recent years the innovations have been limited and Apple has relied on the tried and tested. The basic design has actually remained virtually unchanged since the launch of the first iPhone.

But everything might be different in 2024, as “Bloomberg” reports. Because only minimal hardware changes are planned for the new iPhones, something “particularly impressive” would have to come with iOS, according to Apple’s intention.

Big focus on artificial intelligence

iOS 18 is not expected until September 2024, so the innovations are only known in abstract form so far. However, a big focus is likely to be on artificial intelligence. Apple was caught off guard by the rapid progress in this area last year and is now racing to catch up.

The tech giant has had a personal assistant, Siri, for almost a decade, but it can’t even begin to keep up with what ChatGPT and other modern chatbots can deliver.

There are also likely to be major changes in the design. However, not everything is going well so far. Apple’s software boss Craig Federighi paused the development of new features for iOS 18 for almost a week last month. The reason was that far too many bugs had already crept in that the Apple programmers had to fix first.
