More information about Nintendo’s next-gen console has leaked online, and it looks fantastic.

Nintendo is reportedly playing catch-up with its next console, which will supposedly be a next-gen competitor to the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

While it won’t match the power of Microsoft and Sony’s current consoles, it will be a big improvement over the Nintendo Switch, and it’s believed some game developers have already seen the console in action, following an initial secret preview during Gamescom.

New details about the console’s design, capabilities and even a potential name have emerged online, thanks to a Korean leaker who complaints have insider knowledge of the unannounced console.

Apparently its screen name is Nintendo Super Play, likely paying homage to some of the company’s retro consoles. This extends to its rumored design, as it is stated that the button layout will be similar to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System controller, including button colors.

It will also play normal Nintendo Switch game cartridges, supporting previous claims that Nintendo plans to sell two versions of the new console, one supporting physical games and one fully digital.

Interestingly, it is said that Nintendo’s next console will be similar to the Nintendo Switch, in that it can be used at home connected to a TV and on the go, but will not include a docking station to place console.

This raises several questions, mainly because it’s unclear how the console could be connected/disconnected from TVs without using a dock.

As with all leaks, this should be taken with a pinch of salt, as Nintendo has remained silent on its next console at the time of writing. That being said, the new console is expected to release sometime in 2024, so it’s believed an announcement could arrive by the end of this year.

Some believe that an announcement could be made during the Game Awards next December.
