The port of Tianjin, the most important in north China, inaugurated on Saturday a new direct maritime route with Central and South America that will reduce transportation times, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

Nine 35,000-ton container ships operated by the Wan Hai Lines company will cover the route, which will pass through ports in several countries, including Mexico, Panama, Colombia and Ecuador, according to company representative Marc Shia, quoted by the agency.

Shia noted that the new route will cut transportation times by a third: “Products, especially frozen seafood, fruits and vegetables from South America, will be transported to Tianjin in 25 days.”
