New “earphone” promises to wash away excess wax from your ear

The accumulation of wax in the ear can now be solved very easily thanks to a device that looks like an earpiece, but which in fact serves exclusively to wash the ear canal. Developed by the company SafKan Health, the “OtoSet” is an ear cleaning system capable of performing a quick, safe, effective and, best of all, mess-free cleaning to collect wax and used liquid.

Although some people suffer greatly from excessive wax production in their ears, it is important for protection. Earwax is produced by glands in our ear canal that excrete an oil called cerumen, forming earwax, to keep dust, bacteria and small objects from entering the ear. The big problem occurs when cerumen production is so large that the wax ends up blocking the ear canal and affecting our hearing.

At first glance, most people, when they see the OtoSet, will think that it is a headphone. However, what this ear cleaning system does is squirt liquids into the user’s ear canal to wash and remove wax buildup. The cerumen removal process takes less than 5 minutes and the suction of the device is able to collect all the wax and liquid and store it in the pair of compartments on the side as you can see below.

Otoset is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a federal agency of the US Department of Health and Human Services. However, to use it, it is recommended that the procedure be done with the help of a health professional. The Otoset Ear Cleaning System retails for US$3,059 (R$15,900 in direct conversion) and is capable of “treating up to 240 ears” as the parts that go into the patient’s ear canal are disposable.
